LE THANH INTERNATIONAL BORDER GATE ECONOMIC ZONE: DIALOGUE BETWEEN GIA LAI LEADERS AND IMPORT-EXPORT ENTERPRISES ON REMOVING DIFFICULTIES, PROMOTING IMPORT AND EXPORT ACTIVITIES
Le Thanh International Border Gate Economic Zone is identified as a new growth axis, contributing significantly to promoting the socio-economic growth of Gia Lai province after the merging provinces. Therefore, it is necessary to focus on removing difficulties and obstacles, promoting import and export activities through Le Thanh International Border Gate. This is one of the important contents directed by Mr. Pham Anh Tuan – Deputy Secretary of Gia Lai Party Committee and Chairman of Gia Lai People's Committee at the meeting and dialogue with enterprises operating in import and export activities at Le Thanh International Border Gate Economic Zone held in the morning of September 27th 2025 at Hall 02/9, Pleiku Ward in Gia Lai Province. The conference attendants were Mr. Nguyen Tu Cong Hoang – Deputy Chairman of Gia Lai People's Committee and Director of Gia Lai Economic Zone Authority (GEZA), leaders of provincial departments, branches, units, localities, business associations, enterprises who are investors with import – export projects at Le Thanh International Border Gate Economic Zone.
At the moment, there are 37 projects in Le Thanh International Border Gate Economic Zone with a total investment capital of VNĐ 643 billion, out-carrying capital of VNĐ 319 billion (reaching percentage of 49%). The growth of production and business activities has been increasing in the first 8 months of 2025 with USD 155 million total import-export turnover through Le Thanh International Border Gate reached, of which the import turnover reached USD 92 million and the export turnover reached USD 63 million, an increase of 76% over the same period in 2024. Besides the achieved results, import-export enterprises still face many barriers and difficulties. With the discussion in this conference, the Gia Lai leaders and provincial enterprises clarified the causes, difficulties and obstacles, then proposed solutions to effectively exploit the potential and advantages in continuously increasing the import-export turnover as a value of an international border gate. At the Conference, the enterprises were very excited to express their high consensus on the sense of responsibility of Gia Lai Provincial Leaders in accompanying the enterprises. They also frankly expressed their thoughts and aspirations, proposed a series of opinions and recommendations, mainly related to customs clearance procedures, difficulties in warehouses, drying yards and logistics services. Some businesses suggest that Authority agencies should initially receive photocopies of documents and files for processing procedures before waiting for the official copies, which may come late. Furthermore, the goods from Cambodia is not really in good quality for export. To have good products for export or to sell to factories, the enterprises have to dry them, so they need a warehouse and a drying yard…
Basing on the opinions and recommendations from the businesses at the Conference, Mr. Chairman of Gia Lai People's Committee affirmed, Gia Lai province identified Le Thanh International Border Gate Economic Zone as a new growth axis after the province's merger. Therefore, it is necessary to focus on removing difficulties and obstacles to promote import and export activities through this border gate. Mr. Pham Anh Tuan showed his guidance that the government must adjust to follow the direction of the General Secretary and the Prime Minister. The government must create conditions, not administrative procedures. The point of view of Gia Lai Government is to accompany businesses in the spirit of 5 together: listening together, discussing together, implementing together, sharing results together and solving difficulties together. And especially, the government must transform from administration and control to service, creation and taking people and businesses as the center. And with that slogan, Mr. Chairman proposed the following: First, Gia Lai Provincial departments and branches must focus on administrative reform and create the best conditions for the activities of businesses, especially in Le Thanh International Border Gate Economic Zone. The second issue is the spirit and attitude of working with businesses, which is to resolve, to accompany and to support. Last but not least, the third issue is the public ethics of Government officials at the border gate. The businesses must find Le Thanh International Border Gate is the best, then they will come and operate the projects here, open businesses here, do business here to create jobs for people in the border areas and pay taxes to Gia Lai Province.
As Gia Lai Province focuses on removing difficulties and obstacles for businesses, completing the Project on developing the Le Thanh International Border Gate Economic Zone in the next 05 years to submit to the Government for consideration and approval to be ready to welcome a new investing wave, at this Conference, Mr. Pham Anh Tuan – Deputy Secretary of Gia Lai Party Committee and Chairman of Gia Lai People's Committee suggested that businesses need to proactively research and propose investment plans and projects in the coming time together with local authorities to build and to develop Le Thanh International Border Gate Economic Zone more and more strongly, to take care of people’s lives in the border areas of both Gia Lai and Cambodian neighbor provinces, contributing to maintaining national security, social order and safety in the land border area.
