At the reception, Mr. Standing Deputy Chairman of Gia Lai People's Committee expressed his pleasure to welcome the delegation from Ashikaga City, Tochigi Province, Japan to visit and work in Gia Lai, and he also introduced the provincial potential, strengths and outstanding achievements. Gia Lai holds a strategic position in connecting Vietnam Central Highlands with the Central Coast of Southern Laos, North-Eastern Cambodia, where is an important bridge from the inland to the sea. With a modern and synchronous transportation system including roads, aviation airports and seaports, Gia Lai has favorable conditions to develop logistics, transportation, goods import and export, gradually turns into a strategic regional and international connection center. In addition, Gia Lai is dynamic in economic development, especially in industrial development, high-tech agriculture, renewable energy and eco-tourism, where is also a rich land of national cultural identity.
Mr. Nguyen Tuan Thanh – Standing Deputy Chairman of Gia Lai People's Committee emphasized that over the past half century, the Vietnam-Japan relationship has been constantly developing and has been upgraded to a comprehensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia and the whole world. Japan is currently the third largest foreign investor in Vietnam with more than 5,400 projects, total capital of over USD 77 billion focusing on processing industry, energy, infrastructure and high technology. Gia Lai Province has Le Thanh International Border Gate Economic Zone with total area of 41,515 hectares and Nhon Hoi Economic Zone with total area of 14,308 hectares, where Becamex VSIP Binh Dinh Township and Industrial Parks with large area is waiting for all FDI investors, including Japanese investors. Currently, in the Gia Lai Economic Zones - Industrial Parks, there are 07 projects of Japanese investors being implemented in the fields of industrial production, forestry and aquatic product processing, renewable energy and garment with a total registered investment capital of about USD 67.4 million on total area of 80.71 hectares. Notably, in 2024, Ashikaga City and Quy Nhon City signed an agreement to establish friendly relations, cooperation in tourism and cultural exchange. Mr. Standing Deputy Chairman affirmed that the visit of Ashikaga City delegation is an important opportunity for the two localities to enhance understanding, to exchange experiences and to expand comprehensive cooperation. Mr. Standing Deputy Chairman believes that the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between Gia Lai Province and Ashikaga City will become an important milestone, which opens a new stage of good development in the friendly relations between the two sides.
Ashikaga Mayor – Mr. Naohide Hayakawa expressed his deep gratitude for the warm welcome from Gia Lai provincial leaders. Then he also showed the overview of the economic, cultural and educational developing potential of Ashikaga City, Tochigi Province, Japan and hoped that the two localities would strengthen their connection aiming to establish a comprehensive and sustainable friendship and cooperation in the coming time. Mr. Mayor said that Tochigi Province in Japan is a typical industrial, educational and cultural center of the Kanto region with green, ecological and sustainable area. Ashikaga City wishes to cooperate with Gia Lai Province in developing human resources to serve food production, high-tech agriculture and manufacturing industry.
At the meeting, the two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in training and exchanging human resource in the fields of industry, tourism, cultural exchange, education, agriculture, wood processing technology, renewable energy, AI and IT to promote bilateral economic development and friendly exchange between the two localities. Basing on the above MoU, the two sides will strive to promote information exchange and create business cooperation opportunities that create benefit for sustainable development of the two localities and businesses of the sides.

In the next day, on October 28th 2025, Ashikaga City delegation had paid a visit to Becamex VSIP Binh Dinh Township and Industrial Parks in Nhon Hoi Economic Zone. At the moment, there are 09 FDI investors with 11 projects from developed countries such as Germany, Denmark, Netherlands, Singapore, Korea, China… on a total area of over 100 hectares and a total investment capital of over USD 284 million in here. Japanese businesses in general and investors from Ashikaga City, Tochigi Province in private have strengths in the fields of automotive technology, electronic components, semiconductors, automation, machinery, precision equipment, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, environmental technology, etc. Right now, Gia Lai Economic Zones - Industrial Parks including Becamex VSIP Binh Dinh Township and Industrial Parks already have available land with large area, ensuring successful attraction of projects from Japanese investors. We hope for the near future with more investors from Japan and Ashikaga City who execute huge projects in here.
